Discovering the Wonders of Australia: A Memorable Trip to Melbourne and Sydney
A week-long Australian adventure spanning Melbourne's galleries and gardens, the Skydeck at 88 floors up, Sydney's Opera House, and everything in between.

Australia had been on my bucket list for years, and after an unexpectedly last-minute visa (a story in itself), I finally got to experience this incredible country first-hand. Here's a day-by-day account of the trip — from Melbourne's laneways to Sydney's iconic harbour.
Arrival — Wednesday Evening
We landed in Melbourne in the evening, tired but buzzing with excitement. After settling in, we called it an early night to save energy for the adventures ahead.
Friday — City, Gardens, and Gallery
Our exploration began with a walk through Melbourne's city centre. The first stop was the Royal Botanic Garden — an oasis of greenery that felt worlds away from the urban bustle. From there we made our way to the Shrine of Remembrance, an awe-inspiring memorial that commands both the skyline and your full attention.
The afternoon was spent at the National Gallery of Victoria, where we lost track of time admiring Australian art. We wrapped up the day at Federation Square, grabbed lunch at Maccaroni Trattoria Italiana, and strolled through Melbourne Central and Chinatown before heading back.
Saturday — Crown Towers
A more relaxed day — we met up with friends for dinner at the Crown Towers restaurant. Good food, great company.
Sunday — Sydney: Opera House and Harbour Bridge
An early flight took us to Sydney. Standing in front of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge was one of those moments that reminds you why you travel. The scale, the architecture, the energy of the waterfront — easily one of the best days of the trip.
Monday — Sea Life Aquarium
We spent the morning at the Sea Life Aquarium, weaving through tanks filled with sharks, rays, and all kinds of marine creatures. It's a surprisingly meditative experience — the kind of place where an hour slips by in what feels like minutes.
Tuesday — Puffing Billy Railway and Seaford Beach
Back in Melbourne, we rode the legendary Puffing Billy Railway — a heritage steam train that winds through the Dandenong Ranges. The forest views from the open-sided carriages were stunning. We rounded off the day with a walk along Seaford Beach, watching the sunset over the bay.
Wednesday — Melbourne Zoo
A full day at Melbourne Zoo. Highlights included the Australian wildlife section — seeing kangaroos and koalas in person never gets old.
Thursday — Skydeck (The Highlight)
This was the highlight of the entire trip. The Skydeck on the 88th floor of Eureka Tower offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Melbourne that is genuinely breathtaking. On a clear day you can see for kilometres in every direction. If you do one thing in Melbourne, make it this.
Friday — Final Day
We spent our last day with friends — pizza for lunch, ice cream in the afternoon, and a slow walk before checking into a hotel near the airport for an early departure the next morning.
Final Thoughts
Australia exceeded every expectation. The people are warm, the food is excellent, and the scenery — from mountain railways to harbour sunsets — is genuinely world-class. If you're considering making the trip, don't hesitate. Just go.
